
The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has urged landlords to not require a deposit or top-up payment from NSFAS-funded students.
This arrives following NSFAS received experiences about some accommodation suppliers who require NSFAS-funded students to pay for a deposit or top-up payment so that you can get usage of the accredited private accommodation.

"NSFAS reminds accommodation companies of the compulsory conditions, as provided by the Standardised Fixed-Term Lease Settlement amongst the non-public accommodation suppliers and NSFAS funded students," NSFAS stated in an announcement on Thursday.
The Standardised Fixed-Term Lease Agreement states that the rent will probably be paid out regular monthly for the accommodation supplier (lessor) by NSFAS, on behalf of your lessee (NSFAS funded student), in accordance using the NSFAS conditions and terms for private accommodation companies’ participation on the student accommodation portal.

The NSFAS terms and conditions for private accommodation providers’ participation on the student accommodation portal also states nsfas that: "Where the NSFAS-funded student is defunded on account of an incorrect choice by nsfas login NSFAS, the student won't be liable for payment of any arrear rent for the accommodation provider, up until finally the date of being defunded."
